Keep Close Watch on Yourself
1 Timothy 4:13-16
There were a number of concerns Paul expressed in this letter. He wrote about various issues related to the daily functioning of the church in Ephesus. However, Paul was also concerned about Timothy. Preachers specifically and leaders generally can become consumed by issues regarding other people in the local church. While issues must be addressed, we must not forget to be developing our character personally. Like Paul told Timothy, we must keep a close watch on ourselves.
We keep close watch on ourselves by studying the Scriptures, being exhorted, and receiving teaching. Paul and Timothy had gifts. Paul was an apostle. Timothy was an evangelist. Yet, both were sinners saved by grace through faith. They needed to grow in Christ as much as the saints among whom they worked.
