Methodist Approval

Same-sex Blessings
by Bob Pulliam

Citizen's of the same kingdom are subject to the same laws. I doubt that any would deny this. For years we have declared that people in sectarian religions are not in the kingdom of Christ. Such becomes more and more evident as the years pass.

An article appeared in the January 15, 1999 Conroe Courier with the headline: Same-sex blessings have United Methodist Church aboil. The stir is over a church service to bless a lesbian couple in their "union". It is actually intended as "a civil rights demonstration" by 84 United Methodist ministers, and 1,000 invited guests. The article says that it is intended "to dramatize deviance of a Methodist law that codifies the Christian tradition against same-sex relations." I could hope that this wording was accidental, but I doubt it.  Did you catch it?... "codifies the Christian tradition"?...  Methodist law?...  They think the first century church would have approved of their actions.  They think that Methodist Law on homosexuality simply "codifies the Christian tradition".  Are these people looking to the law of Christ?  These people don't even live outside the walls of Christ's kingdom. They're on the other side of the universe.  They live in the kingdom of "I think", and "I believe".  The kingdom of Christ, on the other hand, declares the truth on this subject.

Every time you see the word fornication in the Bible, you are seeing a term that includes homosexuality.  But you need not know the language. Try this on for size...

ADo you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God." (emph. mine, b.p.)

Homosexuals (which includes lesbians) will not inherit the kingdom of God. Add to that...

AFor this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due." (emph. mine, b.p.)

These people are doing what is shameful. I have often thought that Jesus' answer to the homosexuals of our day would be no different than His answer to the Pharisees in Matthew 19:4f.

AAnd He answered and said to them, >Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning `made them male and female,` and said, `For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh`?=@

As the old saying goes, "He made them Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve"!  God's law on this has existed from creation, and exists because it is the way God created us.  When the homosexual says "God made me this way", indicating he has no choice but to be homosexual, he has called God a liar.  A liar concerning His law, and a liar concerning His creation.

God has not lied.  It is the selfish human race in their rush to justify whatever pleases them.  The Methodist Church does not have a proper respect for the authority of God's word.  Undoubtedly, many Methodists are appalled at this conduct.  But these need to realize that the only difference between the pros and cons in the Methodist Church is "Church law", not Bible authority.  And "Church law" is determined by a majority vote.
