Social Drinkers

Social Drinkers
(by  Bob Pulliam)

No, this is not about alcoholic beverages, although the title might lead you to think that. This article is about another kind of social "drinker". I refer to one who only drinks in public, but never in private, the drink being the word of God. Only when out before others do these partake of the word of God. Their drinking of the word is a social matter, rather than a matter of life.

Jesus said, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink." (Jn 7:37b) The problem seems to be that too many cannot thirst unless others are around to see them drink. You might say they are social drinkers. Do you find their actions admirable? Certainly social drinking is wrong, whether it involves alcohol or abstinence from the word except while in public.

All I can say is, "repent!" Long for the pure milk of the word as newborn babes (I Pt 2:2).
